From above, the landscape of Malta unfolds as a patchwork of cultivated fields stretching towards the Mediterranean. Warm ochres, coral pinks, soft greens and rich violets divide the land into a mosaic of geometric shapes, revealing the character of the island in a way only an aerial view can.

Rather than recording every field in detail, I simplified the landscape into broad areas of colour and pattern, allowing the rhythm of the farmland to emerge. The deep blue sea provides a calm counterpoint to the warmth of the land, while roads and boundaries guide the eye through the composition.

Painted in oils on a wood cradled panel, Passing Over Malta 3 continues my exploration of landscapes seen from the air, where familiar places become studies of colour, shape and atmosphere.

PLEASE NOTE – Frame is for illustration only and is not included with the painting. The painting can be hung without a frame. The panel sides are painted dark grey.
