Viewed from the window of a departing aircraft, Leaving Malta captures the last glimpse of the island before it slips beneath the wing. The geometric patchwork of fields, winding roads and scattered buildings gradually gives way to the distant horizon, while the aircraft wing becomes an integral part of the composition, framing the landscape below.

Working with acrylic and oil allowed me to balance the crisp, engineered structure of the wing against the softer colours and textures of the land. The familiar view from a passenger window becomes more than a record of travel, inviting memories of journeys made, holidays ending and the quiet anticipation of wherever comes next.
